About Us

Sunland's mission is to provide proper care in an atmosphere where those relying upon Christian Science for healing can lift their thought above the illusion of life in matter into the understanding of man's oneness with our Father-Mother God.

History

The Manual of the Mother Church supports Christian Science nursing. The origins of Christian Science Nursing Facilities date back to 1916 when the Board of Directors began construction of The Christian Science Benevolent Association at Chestnut Hill in Boston, Massachusetts. From this small beginning, thirty-seven Christian Science nursing facilities were born around the globe. Each facility is independent of The Mother Church, individually created, and incorporated by a local board of directors or membership organization. Sunland was established to support Christian Science nursing in the Southern California area.

In 1944, three Christian Science practitioners nurtured the idea of a nursing home based in San Diego. They formed a non-profit corporation under a charter from the State of California. Land in San Diego was purchased in 1947, and eight years later a dedicatory service was held on Thanksgiving Day, 1955. This property was eventually sold, and Sunland's new facility was built in Encinitas, California. It was dedicated in September of 1998.

This new modern and open facility offers an abundance of light in each of its 20 private rooms and common areas. It is located in an attractive coastal community with cool ocean breezes and easy access to Interstate 5. Our nursing staff is comprised of dedicated Christian Scientists who embrace Sunland's healing mission.
